Introduction:
Dominica and Haiti both lie on the island of Hispaniola, which is only smaller than the Cuba island among the Greater Antilles at the north of Caribbean sea. The local Africans were sold here by Spanish invaders. Although they have believed Catholicism for hundreds of years, their deliberate conservation of African culture still exists in all of their living customs and ceremonies. For example, the festival celebrating the spring means the releasing of power, nature and soul. |
