A group of 20 to 25 women of Bondaga and Sanchi Bandh, the two remote villages in West Bengal, India, still run their livelihood based on primitive way of shallow water fishing throughout the year. All fisherwomen use traditional indigenously made tools called “ghun-net” and “khalui” for catching and keeping small fish and prawns. Generally the fishing starts early in the morning and continues for 3-4 hours, followed by selling of the day’s catch to local market with a daily earning of $1-2 per head.
