Tibetan work songs in Sman Shod Valley are usually sung antiphonally by and between two groups of men as they ram walls. Women do not ram walls as it is a taboo for them to cross any wall once the base is finished. But they could help deliver earth to the wall. Men believe that the walls will be flabby if they do not sing constantly as they ram them.
