Pingyuan County, located in the northeast of Guangdong province and in the south of China, on the border between Guangdong, Jiangxi and Fujian Province.
Pingyuan County is under the jurisdiction of Meizhou City which is known as the home of standard Hakka. Hakka people of Pingyuan, descendants of the ancient Han nationality, have formed the unique folk customs and the traditional consciousness in their hand production life over the years. They like to live in bamboo or wooden made houses. The most characteristic hakka folk house is called Round-Dragon House, which is usually built on the hills or the sloping ground.
The tradition way of farming has been remained by Hakka people here. The traditional fairs, clothing customs, wedding customs and ancestor worshipping are the examples of folk cultures of Hakka people in Pingyuan, which provide the rare photographic sources for people traveling there. The best seasons for photographing are in summer and autumn during the Lotus Festival being held and the themes for photographing are landscapes of lake and mountains, round-dragon houses of hakka, cultivation cultures of hakka and the ancient salt-rice road in Pingyuan.
