World Folklore Photographers Association (WFPA), an international and professional NGO, was foundedÂ in Toronto, Canada in 2009. The work of WFPA is organized and carried out by the International Communication Department of China Folklore Photographic Association (CFPA).
The first preparatory meeting of WFPA was held in Pairs — the headquarters of UNESCO on September 9th, 1999. More than 40 persons from 20 countries attended. The conference had discussed the constitution of WFPA, selected the personnel for the first preparatory committee and set a fixed timeline for next meeting.
The second preparatory meeting of WFPA was conducted in Quanzhou, Fujian Province in June, 2000. The meeting announced the establishment of the Foundation Committee, divided the work of the WFPA Preparatory Committee and set the agenda of the Founding Conference in October.

WFPA applied for joining the international NGOs of the UNESCO.
WFPA was officially established in Canada on August 11th, 2009, and the celebration meeting was held in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province on September 17th, 2009.
WFPA professionally supported the Humanity Photo Awards 2011(HPA2011). The HPA 2011 was its first official performance.
